About Me
I'm a children's book writer and the founder of the writing community Inked Voices.
I write nonfiction stories that I call experiential nonfiction - born from a desire to go and explore! I also love the whimsical and fantastical and stories about connection. My nonfiction picture book If You Went to the Bottom of the Ocean, illustrated by Gordy Wright and edited by Naomi Kirsten and Ian Tseng, is forthcoming with Chronicle Books in May 2026. I'm represented by Mona Kanin at Great Dog Literary.
I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia (go Hoos!) and my MBA from the University of Michigan (go Blue!). I've loved studying biology from a young age and it feels great to pursue it in a way I never expected. I get to research and soak up information and then share it with others! At Inked Voices, I use a different kind of creativity. I want to help writers find community with fellow writers, to connect more deeply with their own writing, and to grow. Thinking about how to do that effectively is exciting.
I live in Charlottesville, Virginia with my husband Dan, our two kiddos, and our bouncy dog Pax. Our family lived in Brooklyn, New York for 10 years and Durham, North Carolina before that, so they are home, too.
I am also an oyster gardener and have been growing oysters in the Rappahannock River since 2020. My oysters are striking up and down the shoreline, doing their good filtering work! In the winter, I volunteer as a skiing instructor for people with disabilities. I've been doing this since 1999 and it's how I met my husband.
